I'm Imogen, a horticulturalist and garden designer based in Perth.

Gardens have been a constant throughout my life. Wherever I've lived as an adult, I've found myself creating them. Growing up between South West bushland and Perth, I watched my parents create them too - Dad building stone walls and installing irrigation, Mum harvesting rhubarb and planting sweet peas, while I searched for frogs amongst the plants.

My parents' current garden was professionally designed and installed in 2006. I was fascinated by the process and, twenty years later, it remains a source of knowledge and experimentation for me. Watching that garden evolve continues to influence the way I think about gardens today.

Six years ago, I turned a lifelong love of gardens into a profession. Working on a leading Perth tree farm while completing my Diploma of Horticulture provided an invaluable hands-on education, broadening my understanding of trees from propagation and formative pruning through to establishment and long-term performance in the landscape.

In 2024, I established IC Green to bring together horticultural knowledge and garden design.

My design approach is guided by simplicity, restraint and thoughtful planting. I believe gardens should complement their surroundings rather than compete with them. For me, the most successful gardens are those where every element serves a purpose and contributes to the overall composition. The best gardens become better with age.
